Things to do in Mostar

Mostar sits astride the Neretva river as the de facto capital of Herzegovina, its two banks joined by the Stari Most, the Ottoman bridge rebuilt after its 1993 destruction and reopened in 2004.

The old quarter mixes Ottoman-era houses and mosques with Austro-Hungarian buildings from the century after 1878, and the Bulevar, the avenue that split the city during the 1992-1995 war, still shows scarred facades today: Mostar's administration remains split along community lines rather than genuinely reunified.

Expect a compact centre walkable in under 20 minutes, July-August highs near 27-28 degrees with little shade, and most sights within a 5-minute walk of the bridge. Kravice waterfalls and Blagaj are each roughly 25-40 minutes away by car, making Mostar the practical base for day trips across Herzegovina.
