Things to do from Dubrovnik: day trips to Mostar
Dubrovnik is a Croatian coastal city, not a Bosnian one, but it is the most common starting point for a day trip inland to Mostar. Expect roughly 3 to 4 hours on the road each way, depending on the route and how the border crossing goes, since Bosnia-Herzegovina sits outside the EU and outside Schengen.
The exact road can cross the frontier up to three times: out of Croatia near the Neum corridor, briefly back into Croatia, then a fresh entry into Bosnia near Metkovic or Doljani before reaching Mostar. The Peljesac Bridge, open since July 2022, only shortens this for traffic continuing north or to Split, not for anyone turning off toward Mostar.
Bring a passport, budget for queues in July and August, and treat a full day trip as long but doable.
