Things to do in Jablanica
Jablanica, about 45 minutes north of Mostar by road, is built around a single subject: the Battle of the Neretva, a major 1943 clash of the Second World War in which Partisan forces destroyed their own rail bridge to block Axis troops, then crossed the river anyway on the wreckage.
The twisted iron spans survive on site, next to a purpose-built museum (entry runs roughly 5 to 10 KM) covering strategy, weapons and daily life during the campaign. This is a 1943 story, not the 1992-1995 war whose scars show up elsewhere in the region - the two get mixed up easily.
Budget an hour or two; combine with a stop at nearby Konjic or Boracko Lake rather than a dedicated day trip.
