Things to do in Kotor: is a Mostar day trip worth it?
Kotor is the farthest of this site's Adriatic gateways, and the only one that means crossing a border twice: out of Montenegro, then into Croatia or Bosnia-Herzegovina depending on the route, before you reach Mostar.
Reckon on 4 to 5 hours each way, well over double the drive from Dubrovnik, so a there-and-back day trip leaves little more than an hour or two at the Stari Most before the return crossing.
Anyone based in the Bay of Kotor and set on seeing Mostar properly should plan an overnight, or split the drive with a stop at Kravice falls or Blagaj's tekija along the Neretva valley. Passports get checked at both borders, not waved through, since Bosnia-Herzegovina sits outside the EU and outside Schengen.
